Introducing our new monthly Mama Maker series.
Each month we will take 5 minutes to hear stories about small business and the inspiring women who do it..especially mothers.
First up is Kelsey from Hello Little Bead, an Australian made baby teether business... and we just happen to stock a few of their wares.
So tell us a bit about yourself..
My name is Kelsey and I own and run Hello Little Bead, a small teething toy business based in Perth WA. I am married to my hubby Matt and together we have two little ones, our son Walter who will be two in August, and our little Burmese Cat Milly who we love like crazy! In my spare time (haha) I am a Senior Child Protection Worker, which I am also very passionate about.
How did you start your biz?
Hello Little Bead began to come to life when I started my maternity leave in June of 2016. I just love being creative and I thought that there may come a time when I wanted a 'little hobby' while staying at home with my son. Soon enough teethers and beads started to take over the house and eventually my husband had had enough of wading through my stock and transformed half our garage into my business storage haha (what a guy!)
What is your favourite thing about having your own small biz?
What I love most about owning and running a small business is being among so many other creatives who are so wonderful at offering support and guidance. I have made some wonderful friends in a space that could have been so competitive- I have really learnt that there is enough room for us all!
What are the biggest challenges?
Some of the more tricky aspects of running Hello Little Bead (which I'm sure other mums in business would agree) is balancing this with raising my amazing little boy and also my 'day job'. Some nights I am up very late with orders and replying to emails which can leave my patience a little thin the next day!
Even though I don't work while my son is awake, I also find social media creeps in to these times and so my New Years resolution this year has been to spend more time in the present and less time on my phone! So far, I'm doing pretty well! xxx

Thanks so much for sharing a little bit about yourself Kelsey and for string the lovely pics of you and your little family. We all love to see the face behind the business..and its so important to share it if you are a small one.
We'll see you again next month with another mama maker.
